Liposuction

Recently, liposuction is the most common surgical procedure in the cosmetic world.
Liposuction that Dr.Cengizhan Ekizceli performs to remove fat that is resistant to exercise and diet from specific areas of the body such as the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, back, arms, neck, and sometimes the face to enhance the shape of the body.

● What is Liposuction Surgery?

Liposuction is a minor procedure compared to major cosmetic surgeries. It depends on the area to be formed and the amount of fat to be extracted. However, it does require preparation and planning to ensure the course of treatment, recovery time, and ultimately the achievement of the desired results.

● How is Liposuction surgery performed?

Liposuction is performed under general anesthesia and lasts for 1-4 hours. Dr. Cengizhan Ekizceli makes small incisions to insert the cannula tube, then the area to be treated is filled with a medical solution, then the ultrasound energy from the Vaser gently breaks up the fat from the connective tissue, making it soft and allowing it to be removed more easily without strong suction and leaving the surrounding tissues intact, which means less bruising, less swelling and less pain compared to traditional liposuction.
Then, the excess fat is extracted from the body using a special cannula device that is inserted through the incisions that are surgically closed upon completion. The fluid remains in the patient’s body to relieve pain after surgery and is absorbed by the body later.
After closing the stitches around the incisions, the surgeon applies a compression bandage to the surgical area to reduce swelling.

● Will the fat that was removed from the body reappear?

Liposuction is performed once to remove fat cells from the body forever.
So, if liposuction is performed from the abdominal area, the area will still contain less fat, and the same applies to the thighs, arms, and other areas of the body.

● Does liposuction tighten the skin?

Liposuction is a procedure to remove fat only. If the patient has not gone through the stage of pregnancy and childbirth, her skin is elastic enough to shrink and become less in size. In other cases, if the patient has wrinkles, folds, and sagging skin after liposuction, she must combine liposuction and skin tightening.

● How long does the patient have to return to normal life?

Some patients can resume their normal daily routine within a couple of days after having liposuction, and others take longer to recover completely. Dr. Cengizhan Ekizceli advises his patients to exercise gently a week after the operation and not to lift weights and do strenuous exercise for two weeks.

● Are swelling and bruising normally after surgery?

Bruising, swelling, and pain in the area where the liposuction is done for the first few days after surgery is expected to increase slightly before it starts to improve. Some drains will be placed to help remove unwanted fluid mixed with blood from under the skin. A compression bandage is also placed for 8 weeks to reduce swelling.

● How long does the patient have to wait to return to normal life?

The patient needs about a week to return to his/her daily life and usual routine.
Refrain from intense exercise until three weeks after surgery. You can do light exercise after about two weeks.
The feeling of numbness is very normal in the treated areas, and the feeling will return to normal over time. The results are often instant and leave the skin feeling smooth and tight.

● When will the results appear after liposuction?

The patient notices the initial results immediately after the surgery, and after 3 months, the final results appear.

● Do fat cells grow again after liposuction?

Liposuction permanently removes fat cells from the target area, but it is possible that new fat cells will form in the areas that were previously liposuctioned if the weight gain is large.

● Does liposuction help in treating cellulite?

Liposuction improves body shape only, not skin texture, so it has nothing to do with cellulite treatment.

● Is it possible to lose weight with liposuction?

Liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure but rather aims to improve the appearance by removing some fat cells from the targeted areas because removing fat cells in large quantities is very dangerous. However, it can be said that liposuction can cause weight loss.
